Refocus / by J Singer

Trying to start your own business is quite nerve racking, especially when you might not have a solid background in business. I just know I love taking pictures, especially of vehicles. My love of the craft alone isn't going to make me profitable. I need good business sense. I'm going to slow down my efforts to take more pictures and instead refocus on what it means to run a good business that's not only profitable, but also creates value for my client base.

I'm already my own worst critic, never knowing if the shot I just took is going to turn out how I want it or not (it usually does in the end). I'm also a perfectionist and have a sometimes detrimental desire to please other people. I just want people to be happy with the work that I create. So trying to figure out how to run a business that's successful and makes people happy and actually is profitable (so I can, you know, have a life), is frying my little brain!

That's why I'm stepping back a bit to refocus. I might edit some old photos to keep content coming, but I won't be actively seeking new projects for now. I'm going to restructure my life so that I'm ready for the next step. I'm going to read business books and continue to listen to Aaron Patton's podcast, Lightcast, to keep my mind on the right path and mindset I need to succeed in this business. I'm also going to focus on just vehicles and really push that part of my talent. That's what I was known for and that's what I should become the best at first. Then maybe I can do personal projects with models and city exploring.

So that's where I am at. It's not likely a vast number of people are going to read this, but if you did, I'm grateful for your time today. Hope your week and weekend are wonderful!
